HaUI strengthens fire prevention capacity

In response to major changes in the legal framework and the increasing complexity of fire incidents, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) has identified strengthening institutional capacity in fire prevention and firefighting as a key priority.

The year 2025 marks an important transition with the enforcement of the 2024 Law on Fire Prevention and Fighting, Rescue and Salvage. This new legal framework requires HaUI to enhance its proactive management and professional capacity to meet practical safety demands.

Statistics presented at the training session delivered a strong warning. Data from the Hanoi Police indicate that approximately 65% of fire incidents originate from electrical failures, largely due to the rapid increase in energy-consuming devices exceeding the original design capacity of electrical systems.

Emerging safety challenges related to electric vehicles were also examined from a technical perspective. Conventional fire extinguishers have not been fully verified for their effectiveness in suppressing battery fires, with actual efficiency reaching only 70-80%. As a result, the recommended solution is to designate separate charging zones with proper safety distances to prevent fire spread at the source.

Alongside theoretical updates, practical drills focused on improving emergency response behavior. A common and dangerous mistake during fires is panic-driven evacuation into smoke-filled stairwells. Instead, the “safe sheltering” technique - sealing door gaps with wet cloths to block toxic smoke and waiting for rescue - was emphasized as a life-saving method in high-rise fire situations.

The training program is scheduled to continue on December 13 at HaUI’s Ninh Binh campus, reaffirming the university’s commitment to strict legal compliance and to equipping staff, employees, and learners with essential fire safety knowledge and skills. Amid unpredictable fire risks, the shift from reactive response to proactive prevention is seen as a strategic approach for ensuring a safe and sustainable educational environment.
