Japanese companies seek technical talent at HaUI and explore early-stage training collaboration

On the morning of November 4, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) held a working session with a delegation of Japanese companies, including ABS Vietnam Joint Stock Company and its partners, to explore strategic cooperation opportunities in human resources.

Overview of the working session

At the meeting, Mr. Pham Van Dong, Vice Rector of HaUI, introduced the university’s 127-year history and emphasized that HaUI is a reputable educational institution with a graduate employment rate consistently above 95%. He also highlighted the key training fields that are receiving strong investment from the Vietnamese government, particularly semiconductor technology and electric vehicles, which are areas where Japanese companies have significant expertise.

Representing the Japanese delegation, Ms. Yury Tokuda, Director of Y K Service Cooperative, expressed her gratitude to HaUI’s leadership for the warm welcome. She explained that the purpose of the visit was to gain an in-depth understanding of the university’s training capabilities and to discuss direct recruitment opportunities. Ms. Tokuda noted that the delegation, including companies in the automotive sector (Koma Shokai Co., Ltd.), electrical industry (Isikawa Electric Co., Ltd.), and construction (Takahashi Gumi Co., Ltd.), is highly interested in HaUI’s engineering programs, particularly mechanical, automotive, and electrical-electronic fields.

Ms. Tokuda emphasized that Vietnam’s technical workforce plays a vital role in the development of Japanese companies. She expressed hope that HaUI could serve as an effective bridge, especially for small and medium-sized Japanese enterprises.

The delegation expressed high appreciation for HaUI’s training quality and state-of-the-art facilities. They proposed an “early investment” model in which Japanese companies would collaborate with HaUI to strengthen training programs and provide scholarships to students from their second and third years, rather than limiting recruitment to graduates or through job fairs. Ms. Tokuda characterized this approach as a mutually beneficial strategy, enabling companies to identify exceptional talent early while guiding students toward well-defined career paths.

In response to the delegation’s proposals, Vice Rector Pham Van Dong reaffirmed HaUI’s full support and readiness to facilitate this specialized recruitment model. He further emphasized the university’s aspiration for Japanese companies to expand their cooperation beyond recruitment, including the provision of equipment and technology for laboratories and practice facilities. HaUI’s leadership pledged to create all necessary conditions to advance toward signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) and implementing concrete collaborative initiatives in the near future.
