Bridging theory and practice: HaUI petrochemical engineering students explore major oil and gas facilities
Students majoring in Petrochemical Engineering at the Faculty of Chemical Technology, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), recently participated in a field study tour to several major oil and gas facilities. The activity forms an integral part of the Faculty’s practice-oriented training approach, aimed at bridging academic learning with real-world industrial experience and fostering professional awareness among students.
The tour brought students to a series of prominent sites, including the historical complex marking Vietnam’s first oil and gas extraction project, the Thai Binh Gas Processing Plant, and the Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical Complex. At each location, students were given the opportunity to observe production processes firsthand, explore technological systems, and gain a deeper understanding of safety management practices in large-scale industrial operations.

Dr. Nguyen Minh Viet, lecturer at the Faculty of Chemical Technology and head of the delegation, reaffirmed HaUI’s consistent view of industry as a strategic partner in developing high-quality human resources. He highlighted that close and sustained collaboration between academia and industry is instrumental in shaping students’ professional mindset, discipline, and readiness to meet the evolving demands of modern industrial environments. He also expressed pride in the increasing number of HaUI alumni who are making meaningful contributions to the operation and advancement of these key oil and gas facilities.

Mr. Dang Thanh Cong, Shift Supervisor at the Thai Binh Gas Processing Plant, expressed strong appreciation for the Faculty’s training approach. He noted that the field trip clearly demonstrates a close alignment between academic programs and the practical needs of the industry. He further recommended that the Faculty strengthen hands-on training while incorporating more content on safety and essential soft skills, enabling students to transition more effectively into professional working environments after graduation.

For many participants, the experience was both intellectually enriching and professionally inspiring. Hoang Thi Kim Tuyet, monitor of class 2022DHKTHH01, noted that firsthand exposure to the scale and complexity of these nationally significant projects, together with the high level of professionalism and strong sense of responsibility demonstrated by engineers, has further strengthened her commitment to pursuing a career in the petrochemical industry.
The field study tour not only enhanced students’ academic understanding but also reaffirmed the effectiveness of the Faculty’s practice-oriented training strategy. Through sustained and meaningful collaboration with industry partners, the Faculty of Chemical Technology remains committed to continuously refining its curriculum and developing highly qualified petrochemical engineers capable of meeting the evolving demands of Vietnam’s oil and gas sector.
