Strategic collaboration between HaUI and SUEP paves the way for innovation in energy and AI

On November 7, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) welcomed a delegation from Shanghai University of Electric Power (SUEP), China, led by Mr. Tong Lai, Secretary of the Party Committee of SUEP. The two universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a strategic milestone and opening a new phase of deeper cooperation between two prestigious institutions from Vietnam and China.

The meeting welcomed a delegation from Shanghai University of Electric Power (SUEP), led by Mr. Tong Lai, Secretary of the Party Committee. Representing Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), Mr. Kieu Xuan Thuc, Rector of Hanoi University of Industry, expressed his great pleasure in hosting the SUEP delegation. The partnership between HaUI and SUEP has evolved steadily over the past three years, establishing a strong foundation for long-term academic collaboration. The two universities have already achieved meaningful outcomes through faculty exchanges and joint scientific publications, reflecting the effectiveness of their cooperation. In his remarks, Mr. Tong Lai highlighted that the shared socio-economic development trajectories of Vietnam and China, together with the strong technical expertise of both institutions, create a solid framework for deepening strategic collaboration in the years ahead.

HaUI recognizes SUEP as a leading and prestigious university in Southern China, renowned for its comprehensive academic programs and outstanding strengths in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, and Artificial Intelligence (AI). These fields also align closely with HaUI’s strategic development priorities for the next five years, laying a solid foundation for deepened and mutually beneficial collaboration between the two institutions.

In the spirit of comprehensive cooperation, the two universities reached a consensus on several strategic initiatives. SUEP extended a cordial invitation to Mr. Kieu Xuan Thuc and the HaUI delegation to attend a series of academic events and the 75th Anniversary Celebration of SUEP next year. Mr. Kieu Xuan Thuc gladly accepted the invitation and affirmed HaUI’s commitment to strengthening exchanges that will foster a long-term and sustainable partnership between the two institutions. Regarding student exchange, both sides agreed to expand joint programs, specialized training courses, and short-term certificate programs in key disciplines. These initiatives will combine academic study with cultural and language exchange. SUEP also pledged to provide full financial support including tuition, accommodation, and living expenses for HaUI students during their study visits to Shanghai, ensuring the most favorable conditions for academic mobility. In the field of scientific and technological research, the two universities will establish joint research groups and an international collaborative laboratory. These teams will jointly apply for and implement scientific projects, particularly national-level research programs in both countries, focusing on crucial areas such as Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, and Artificial Intelligence (AI).

The event took place in the context of the Politburo’s Resolution No. 70-NQ/TW, dated August 20, 2025, on ensuring national energy security through 2030, with a vision to 2045. The Resolution sets forth key objectives to leverage science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation as driving forces for the rapid and sustainable development of the energy sector. It emphasizes the efficient and comprehensive utilization of renewable, new, and clean energy sources, as well as the enhancement of human resource quality and technological capacity to meet international standards. The Resolution also aims to raise the share of renewable energy in the total primary energy supply to approximately 25–30% by 2030.
