Strategic development and university ranking orientation of Hanoi University of Industry for the 2026–2030 period with a vision to 2035

On the afternoon of October 29, Hanoi University of Industry organized the scientific conference entitled “Developing the strategy of Hanoi University of Industry and university ranking for the 2026–2030 period with a vision to 2035.” The conference was attended by members of the University leadership and management staff, serving as an internal academic and administrative forum to review the development context, shape a strategic framework, and establish a solid foundation for the next phase of development of Hanoi University of Industry.

Overview of the event

In his opening remarks and directive address, Mr. Kieu Xuan Thuc, Rector of Hanoi University of Industry, emphasized that the conference was held at a particularly significant time, as higher education in Viet Nam is entering a period of new opportunities and favorable conditions. He shared the aspiration to elevate HaUI by transitioning from the model of a single university to that of a large scale multidisciplinary university, supported by a modern and advanced governance system capable of meeting future development requirements.

Mr. Kieu Xuan Thuc, Rector of Hanoi University of Industry

Dr. Kieu Xuan Thuc stressed that the upcoming development strategy must adopt a modern approach and go beyond traditional strategic thinking. The strategy should focus on quantitative management, enabling measurement, monitoring, effective governance, and continuous improvement, similar to strategic practices applied in well developed organizations. On that basis, he called upon all participants, in their roles as managers and administrators of the University, to demonstrate a strong sense of responsibility and actively contribute to the development of a strategy that is practical, feasible, and effective. He also emphasized that those involved in building the strategy would be the very people responsible for organizing its implementation and turning strategic objectives into reality.

Mr. Hoang Anh, Director of the Center for Quality Assurance

Mr. Hoang Anh, Director of the Center for Quality Assurance, presented an analysis of the macro environment using the PESTEL framework, covering political, economic, social, technological, environmental, and legal dimensions. The presentation highlighted major opportunities arising from political stability, the strong commitment of the State to higher education development, and the increasingly substantive implementation of university autonomy. At the same time, it identified key challenges, including intensifying cross border competition in higher education and the transformative impact of emerging technologies, particularly artificial intelligence.

Subsequently, Mr. Nguyen Manh Cuong presented an overview of HaUI’s current development status. The presentation emphasized the University’s key strengths, including a stable enrollment scale of approximately thirty two thousand to thirty four thousand students, a graduate employment rate exceeding ninety five percent, a broad network of partnerships with enterprises, and substantial physical infrastructure with nearly fifty hectares of land. It also highlighted the strong sense of unity and determination across the University’s management system. In addition, the presentation candidly pointed out areas requiring further improvement, such as the structure of postgraduate education, revenue from science and technology activities, and the need to further strengthen the institutional innovation ecosystem.

Mr. Dang Ngoc Hung, Deputy Director of the Center for Quality Assurance

Providing an outward oriented perspective and institutional positioning based on benchmarking results, Mr. Dang Ngoc Hung analyzed trends in higher education development. Seven major trend pillars were identified, including university autonomy and modern governance, digital transformation and digital education, scientific research and innovation, close linkage with the labor market and enterprises, internationalization and lifelong learning, sustainable development through education for sustainable development, and the restructuring of academic disciplines and training programs. Benchmarking data on international publications and rankings aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals offered a clearer understanding of HaUI’s current position in comparison with other Vietnamese universities, thereby supporting the formulation of realistic and achievable strategic targets.

Mr. Nguyen Van Thien, Vice Rector of Hanoi University of Industry

Mr. Nguyen Van Thien, Vice Rector of Hanoi University of Industry, presented the draft strategic development framework for the 2026–2030 period. The framework proposed a renewed mission, vision, and core values for the University. Notably, the vision to 2035 was articulated as Hanoi University of Industry becoming a university oriented toward innovation and sustainable development.

The draft strategic framework received strong attention and generated active discussion among participants. The vision to 2035 and the newly proposed core values based on the three K philosophy achieved a high level of consensus. Contributions focused on clarifying the mission of training high quality human resources, defining specific key performance indicators for postgraduate education, and developing strategies to effectively leverage the University’s multidisciplinary strengths. Participants also analyzed major national policy orientations, particularly Resolution No. 57 of the Politburo dated December 22, 2024, which emphasizes breakthroughs in science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation, together with new directions for the development of higher education.

The outcomes of the conference reflected a high level of consensus and shared determination among the leadership and management staff of Hanoi University of Industry. These shared perspectives and commitments provide a solid basis for refining the University’s development strategy and for advancing toward a new phase of strong, sustainable, and aspiration driven growth.
