HaUI alumni share experiences and recommendations for practice-oriented training

The effectiveness of an educational institution is not measured solely by academic credentials, but more importantly by graduates’ practical competence, professional mindset, and work attitude as they enter the labor market.

According to its most recent academic year report, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) recorded a 95% graduate employment rate within one year after graduation, reaffirming the quality of its training programs and its strong alignment with employers’ recruitment demands.

Training outcomes are reflected not only in employment rates but also in graduates’ practical competence, professional mindset, and work attitude as they enter the labor market.

Sharing with reporters, Mr. Phan Ba Manh (born in 1982), CEO of An Vui Technology JSC and an alumnus from Cohort 2 of the Faculty of Information Technology (now the School of Information and Communications Technology), stated that he completed his college program at HaUI, started working in 2005, and later returned to pursue a bachelor’s degree in 2013. With over 20 years of experience in programming, he is currently running his own business.

According to Mr. Manh, from its early years, the university adopted a practice-oriented training model. As a result, HaUI graduates are able to adapt to their jobs more quickly than the general average. The university has created favorable conditions for students to engage with real working environments, enabling them to build confidence in their practical skills and integrate effectively into the labor market. Consequently, a high proportion of graduates secure jobs relevant to their fields of study.

Mr. Nguyen Anh Phong (born in 1985), an alumnus of Cohort 3, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering - Automotive (now the School of Mechanical Engineering - Automotive) at Hanoi University of Industry, and currently the CEO of Binh Minh Machinery and Equipment JSC (Binh Minh JSC), expressed: “I have always been proud to be a HaUI graduate – the place that laid the foundation for my entrepreneurial journey and the development of my business.”

Mr. Phong added: “Hanoi University of Industry provides a highly practical training foundation that aligns closely with the needs of businesses, especially in the field of mechanical and automotive engineering. Upon graduation, HaUI students possess solid technical fundamentals, strong practical skills, a diligent and disciplined mindset, and logical engineering thinking. However, today’s labor market demands higher proficiency in technical English, electrical-electronic-control technologies, digital transformation, and data analysis.

In recent years, the university has effectively strengthened its engagement with businesses by organizing Job Fairs, facilitating internships, and inviting companies to deliver specialized lectures. I believe that these initiatives have significantly boosted HaUI students’ confidence as they enter the workforce.

Mr. Nguyen Khac Quy (born 1983), alumnus of Cohort CDD9-K3, Faculty of Industrial Electricity (now the School of Electrical – Electronics), and currently Chairman of the Board and CEO of Phuc Binh Technology JSC (Phuc Binh Group), shared:

“Reflecting on my time at HaUI, the educational outcomes are evident not only in academic qualifications but also in practical competence, professional resilience, and work attitude of graduates as they enter the labor market.

A distinguishing feature of HaUI is the strong emphasis on practical training. Students gain early exposure to hands-on practice, machinery, production processes, and real-world management models, which helps mitigate potential ‘cultural shock’ when transitioning into the professional environment.

During the development of Phuc Binh Group, it became clear that the technical foundation and systematic thinking developed at HaUI provide graduates with the confidence to address challenges, optimize operations, and make decisions in a structured and professional manner.

In particular, in the field of Electrical Engineering – one of HaUI’s traditional strengths – the quality and currency of the curriculum are highly commendable. The program equips students with a solid foundation in electrical systems, automation, and industrial control while emphasizing intensive practical training on actual equipment. This prepares graduates not only to perform effectively immediately but also to progress into senior engineering, technical management, and even entrepreneurial roles within the industrial sector, provided they possess ambition and perseverance.

In addition to technical knowledge, HaUI instills discipline, diligence, and adaptability. In today’s fast-changing labor market, especially under digital transformation and international integration, a strong foundation encompasses not only professional expertise but also a mindset for continuous learning – a principle deeply embedded in HaUI’s education.

Graduates from HaUI therefore enter the workforce with a combination of practical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and a resilient, progressive mindset, allowing them to adapt, contribute, and grow within their professional environments.

In addition, the Chairman of the Board and CEO of Phuc Binh Technology JSC emphasized: “From a business perspective, the human resources emerging from HaUI are consistently commendable. Graduates demonstrate a serious attitude, a strong capacity for rapid learning, and, notably, a spirit of ‘learning by doing and working genuinely.’ These qualities not only facilitate their entry into the labor market but also enable sustainable career development and advancement into managerial and leadership positions in the future.

For me personally, HaUI is not only a center for professional training but also a place where the mindset for business is cultivated – working systematically, taking responsibility, and creating real value for society. This philosophy continues to be instilled in the current generations of students.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Hai Ha (born 1996), Director of the Vietnam branch of an international textile corporation and an alumna of the May Technology 4 program, Cohort 9 (HaUI), also shared: “The training programs at HaUI are closely aligned with practical requirements and the workforce needs of businesses in the market. This alignment enables students to enter the labor market with confidence in the knowledge and skills they have developed over their four-year degree.

Moreover, each lecturer serves as a guiding partner, connecting students with potential employers. HaUI faculty also act as genuine human resource advisors, carefully analyzing businesses to provide direction and introduce students to the companies best suited to their skills and career aspirations.

At the end of 2025, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) officially launched its Alumni Network – a platform where the past, present, and future converge, affirming the enduring vitality of the “practical learning, practical profession” ethos cultivated across generations.

Regardless of their roles – whether as managers, entrepreneurs, engineers, scientists, or technical workers – HaUI alumni carry with them the knowledge, discipline, industrial professionalism, and commitment to contribute to society that the university has instilled. Drawing on models from leading global universities and top institutions in Vietnam, the HaUI Alumni Network is expected to become a cornerstone of the educational ecosystem, with missions that include serving as HaUI brand ambassadors, acting as an extended arm for innovation and entrepreneurship, fostering a lifelong learning ecosystem, participating in quality assurance and social accountability, and developing funding and social welfare initiatives.

Representing the alumni community, Mr. Nguyen Khac Quy stated: “For me, the connection with HaUI is not merely a matter of alumni sentiment; it is a responsibility. Having grown professionally in the environment provided by the university and having had the opportunity to develop Phuc Binh Group, I constantly ask myself: ‘How can I contribute to ensure that the next generation has a stronger foundation than I did?’

In my capacity as a member of the Executive Committee of the HaUI Alumni Network, I actively engage in initiatives that strengthen the connection between the university and enterprises. One initiative I am particularly passionate about is the establishment of a Training Committee under the Alumni Network. This initiative emphasizes inviting alumni who are currently CEOs or managers to directly teach soft skills, share real-world experiences, impart managerial thinking, and provide career guidance to final-year students.

Academic knowledge forms the foundation, but practical experience and insights from the market help students bridge the gap between learning and doing. This initiative serves not only as a bridge between the university and businesses but also as a means for earlier generations to guide and support the next generation as they enter the workforce with greater confidence and readiness.

From a corporate perspective, Phuc Binh Group recently welcomed approximately 30 HaUI students for internships and direct training at our headquarters. This initiative is not treated as a mere formality; rather, we develop detailed training plans, assign real tasks, conduct authentic evaluations, and provide instruction according to the company’s internal standards.

Many students, upon completing their internships, have been offered formal employment contracts and continue to grow within the company. This is a source of great satisfaction, as it demonstrates that the collaboration between the university and the enterprise is generating tangible value.

Furthermore, I pay particular attention to employment opportunities for students with disabilities. I believe that corporate responsibility extends beyond business performance to creating an inclusive work environment, respecting diversity, and providing equitable opportunities for all. When a company opens doors for young people facing challenging circumstances, it not only offers them employment but also instills confidence and self-respect. This represents the most practical and meaningful way for businesses to fulfill their social responsibility.

I firmly believe that sustainable development begins with people. When the university, alumni, and enterprises collaborate, we not only cultivate a highly skilled workforce but also establish a cohesive, humane, and impactful ecosystem connecting education, production, and society,” shared Mr. Nguyen Khac Quy.

In his capacity as both an alumnus and a representative of the company, the Director of Binh Minh Machinery and Equipment Joint Stock Company stated: “I have always considered it my responsibility to ‘give back and accompany’ the university.

In recent years, Binh Minh JSC has hosted HaUI students for internships at the Common Rail Center; organized practical training on Bosch, Denso, and Delphi systems; provided career orientation support for final-year students; sponsored specialized technical seminars; and facilitated students’ exposure to real corporate environments.

Additionally, we are ready to support scholarships for outstanding students, sponsor practical training equipment, and collaborate in developing curricula closely aligned with market realities.”

From the employer’s perspective, the General Director of An Vui Technology Joint Stock Company also commented: “Over the past years, we have consistently focused on HaUI students approaching graduation. The university has likewise prioritized recommending capable students with strong academic records for internships. With the establishment of the HaUI Alumni Network, we actively participate in creating a ‘link’ between alumni and the university. At An Vui, we aim to provide real-world challenges that businesses face and sponsor opportunities for students to devise solutions to these practical problems. Furthermore, we are always ready to serve as advisors, co-training with the university, and sharing knowledge with students to strengthen the connection between academic training and real-world practice.”

According to Nguyen Thi Hai Ha, a HaUI alumna, alumni continually participate in programs such as scholarships for underprivileged students, as well as initiatives that share knowledge and provide career orientation for both incoming and final-year students. Simultaneously, businesses managed by HaUI alumni actively support internships and employment opportunities for newly graduated students.

Ms. Nguyễn Thị Hải Hà further emphasized: “HaUI’s training programs are continuously refined and updated by professors, associate professors, PhDs, and the broader teaching staff. Each faculty and school within Hanoi University of Industry regularly conducts field visits to factories and enterprises to gather practical insights and feedback.

As a result, the university’s programs, which focus on practical and hands-on training, are fundamentally well-aligned with current industry demands. At the same time, it is essential for the university and enterprises to strengthen and deepen their collaboration in order to address human resource challenges and research tasks that companies often lack the time and manpower to undertake.”

Mr. Nguyễn Anh Phong also offered several recommendations to enhance the training of technical personnel in the coming period. He suggested that Hanoi University of Industry should focus on strengthening knowledge of new technologies, such as electronic Common Rail systems, ECU control, and fault diagnostics using modern equipment. At the same time, technical English instruction should be emphasized so that students can access international technical materials from companies like Bosch, Denso, and Cummins. He also highlighted the importance of deepening industry-university collaboration in training, including involving businesses in curriculum development, integrating real-world cases into teaching, and providing students with more direct exposure to workshop environments. Furthermore, cultivating a technical entrepreneurial mindset was considered essential, enabling students not only to become competent engineers but also to develop the potential to become managers, business owners, or founders in the future.
