HaUI students embrace the AI Era at “Next Gen: Survive and Thrive in the AI Era” Seminar
On April 19, the School of Information and Communications Technology (SICT) at Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) successfully hosted the seminar “Next Gen: Survive and Thrive in the AI Era”, drawing strong interest from students and academic staff alike. The event provided a timely and thought-provoking platform for discussing the role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in reshaping the future of learning, working, and living.
AI and the Need for Lifelong Learning
The keynote speaker, Mr. Hoang Nam Tien, Vice Chairman of the University Council at FPT University, delivered a dynamic and insightful presentation. He emphasized the multifaceted role of AI in modern society and highlighted the importance of reading and leveraging AI as a tool to enhance learning. Referring to the current wave of AI advancements as a “technological tsunami,” Mr. Tien cautioned that AI could replace up to 65% of today’s jobs in the near future.
This staggering statistic underscores the urgent need for students to cultivate independent thinking, critical reasoning, and a lifelong learning mindset. According to Mr. Tiến, while AI can process vast amounts of data, it still lacks the uniquely human traits of empathy, creativity, and ethical judgment.
The seminar strongly advocated for the development of both soft and advanced professional skills - those that AI cannot easily replicate. Students were encouraged to build competencies such as emotional intelligence, communication, collaboration, and complex problem-solving, which are expected to remain in high demand in the future job market.
AI as a Tool, Not a Replacement
During the interactive session, HaUI students expressed their awareness of the dramatic transformation taking place in the global labor market due to AI. They acknowledged that academic degrees alone are no longer sufficient; instead, adaptability, interpersonal skills, and creative problem-solving are key to thriving in this new era.
Many students shared optimistic views on how AI could become a powerful ally in addressing global challenges. They mentioned its potential in data analytics, disaster prediction, resource optimization, poverty reduction, and climate change mitigation. However, they also agreed that AI is merely a tool - sustainable solutions must come from a balanced combination of technology, policy, and active human participation.
The “Next Gen: Survive and Thrive in the AI Era” seminar left a lasting impression on participants, sparking enthusiasm and empowering students to face the future with greater confidence. It inspired them to actively seize opportunities and play a leading role in shaping a world where human intelligence and artificial intelligence work hand in hand for the betterment of society.
