Training on information resource utilization to foster innovation in teaching and research
In the context of the current information explosion and profound digital transformation, mastering the skills to search for, exploit, and apply information has become an essential requirement for lecturers and academic staff. With the aim of equipping them with modern tools and methods for accessing knowledge, on the morning of April 26, the Library and Information Center of Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) organized a training session entitled “Exploiting Information Resources to Support Teaching, Learning, and Scientific Research”, with the participation of nearly 60 lecturers and staff members across the university.
Training workshop on “Exploiting Information Resources to Support Teaching, Learning, and Scientific Research”
The training content was meticulously designed to address practical needs, focusing on the following key areas:
Skills in conducting in-depth searches for scientific materials across domestic and international academic databases (such as Google Scholar, Scopus, Web of Science, and the University's Digital Library);
Methods for utilizing keywords, filters, and intelligent search algorithms to optimize information retrieval efficiency;
Techniques for analyzing and evaluating the reliability of information sources, thereby selecting appropriate materials for lectures and research projects;
Guidance on applying reference management software (Mendeley, Zotero, Endnote) in the research and academic writing process;
Accessing Open Educational Resources (OER) to support active and innovative teaching methods in alignment with the digitalization trend in education.
Lecturers and staff actively engaged in sharing, discussing, and practicing information retrieval skills during the training workshop
In addition to theoretical instruction, the training workshop allocated significant time for practical activities: lecturers directly practiced searching on the University's digital library system, engaged in group discussions, and explored the practical application of acquired skills in their teaching and research.
Following the session, many participants expressed their satisfaction with the highly practical training content, particularly the specialized search techniques and the optimization of the information retrieval process. These newly acquired skills are expected to significantly reduce the time required to find suitable materials while enhancing the overall effectiveness of teaching and research activities.
Dr. Ngo Duc Vinh – Director of Library and Information Center, shared insights on information retrieval skills
Delivering remarks at the session, Dr. Ngo Duc Vinh, Director of Library and Information Center, emphasized that the ability to effectively exploit scientific information resources not only improves the quality of lectures but also broadens opportunities for research and academic networking, both domestically and internationally. This is regarded as a crucial factor in elevating the quality of higher education training at the University in the current development phase.
The training workshop served not only to equip lecturers and staff with practical knowledge and skills but also contributed to promoting innovation in teaching methods and scientific research at Hanoi University of Industry. It is a meaningful activity within the University's strategic orientation towards building a modern educational environment, with academic excellence at its core, information as its foundation, and innovation as the driving force for sustainable development.
