HaUI and QAA exchange expertise on international quality assurance and accreditation

On October 12, 2026, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) welcomed a delegation of experts from the UK’s Quality Assurance Agency for Higher Education (QAA) for discussions on the roadmap towards international institutional accreditation. The meeting focused on aligning HaUI’s quality assurance practices with international standards, strengthening institutional governance and enhancing academic standing.

As HaUI continues to develop as a multidisciplinary university, pursuing international accreditation is a key priority in the university’s 2026–2030 development strategy, with a vision to 2035. Aligning institutional quality assurance with international standards will enable HaUI to benchmark performance against global best practices, strengthen governance and foster a culture of continuous improvement across the university.

At the meeting, Dr. Nguyen Van Thien, Vice President of HaUI, reaffirmed the university’s commitment to adopting international standards as benchmarks for educational quality and governance effectiveness. HaUI has completed institutional accreditation under Vietnam’s national standards and is now undergoing its second accreditation cycle. In addition, five HaUI academic programmes have earned accreditation from the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Building on these achievements, HaUI is expanding its benchmarking activities with reputable higher education institutions worldwide, working towards its goal of ranking among Asia’s top 400 universities by 2035.

Discussions with QAA centred on approaches to evaluating institutional quality through actual operational performance. Particular attention was given to the effectiveness of internal quality assurance systems, the transparency and reliability of supporting evidence, and the capacity to sustain continuous improvement. These elements are essential to demonstrating the effectiveness of institutional governance and the quality of academic provision.

After learning about HaUI’s development strategy and current quality assurance framework, Mr. Tim Carnley, International Partnerships Manager at QAA, and Dr. Tullio Lobett, Global Quality Assurance Consultant at QAA, provided expert guidance on the requirements for international institutional accreditation. The discussion emphasised the need for a systematic approach to evidence management, effective coordination across departments and a thorough assessment of institutional readiness. These recommendations offer practical guidance for HaUI in formulating an accreditation roadmap that reflects the university’s governance framework and development priorities.

To further strengthen internal quality assurance, HaUI is enhancing the digital management of accreditation activities. Dr. Than Thanh Son, Head of the Department of Quality Assurance and Internal Control, explained that HaUI has developed an accreditation management module on the e-University platform to facilitate the systematic collection, storage and retrieval of supporting evidence. The module helps standardise data management and streamline institutional self-assessment and accreditation processes, thereby improving efficiency and supporting more effective quality assurance.
