Speaking at the working session, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Manh Kha said HaUI is one of 18 higher education institutions assigned by the Government to contribute to semiconductor workforce development.

Building on its strengths in electrical engineering, electronics, automation and computer engineering, HaUI is developing programmes in integrated circuit design and testing with a stronger industry focus. The University is also investing in specialised laboratories and expanding partnerships with domestic and international organisations. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hoang Manh Kha expressed his hope that semiconductor companies would become more closely involved in the training process, helping HaUI further improve the quality of its graduates and better respond to the evolving workforce needs of the semiconductor industry.

Mr. Ang Wee Seng, Executive Director of the Singapore Semiconductor Industry Association (SSIA), shares his views on strengthening cooperation between industry and HaUI in semiconductor workforce development.

Representing SSIA, Mr. Ang Wee Seng said the Association currently brings together more than 300 companies, research institutes and educational institutions across Singapore’s semiconductor ecosystem. As demand for semiconductor talent continues to grow, SSIA is seeking to deepen partnerships with universities and strengthen links between education and industry. With its member companies covering a broad range of activities across the semiconductor value chain, SSIA can facilitate opportunities for student internships, expert engagement and greater industry participation in education and training. The meeting with HaUI provided an opportunity for the two sides to explore these areas in greater detail and identify potential directions for future cooperation.

The two sides discuss potential cooperation in training, internships, faculty development and industry engagement in electronics and semiconductors.

The discussions focused on different models of university-industry collaboration to support the development of the semiconductor workforce. Areas of common interest included large-scale training of engineers and technicians, expanding internship and work-integrated learning opportunities for students, increasing the involvement of industry experts in teaching, and working together to develop training programmes and strengthen faculty expertise.

Representatives of SSIA member companies also shared their workforce needs and experiences of working with universities. They expressed particular interest in HaUI’s Integrated Circuit Design (IC Design) programme and discussed ways to engage more closely with students through internships, industry-based projects and professional activities.
