New innovation and startup hub inaugurated at HaUI’s School of Economics

On October 14, 2026, the School of Economics at Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) launched the Innovation and Startup Hub , establishing a dedicated platform for knowledge exchange, idea development and entrepreneurial engagement among students. The initiative supports HaUI’s efforts to foster a culture of innovation and strengthen the links between education, scientific research and practical application.

Addressing the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dong, Vice President of HaUI, emphasized the importance of translating scientific research into practical applications, technology transfer and solutions to real-world challenges. He commended the School of Economics for establishing the Hub, highlighting HaUI’s multidisciplinary strengths as an important foundation for fostering collaboration between engineering, technology and economics. By bringing these fields together, HaUI can facilitate the application of research findings to industrial production and broader societal needs.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dong reaffirmed the University’s commitment to providing the necessary facilities and institutional support for the Hub’s development. He expressed his expectation that the Hub would become an active meeting point for faculty members and students across HaUI, encouraging interdisciplinary research, the exchange of ideas and the commercialization of scientific and technological research outcomes.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Thi Hong Nga, Rector of the School of Economics, stated: “An invention that remains in the laboratory may produce a paper or a degree. An invention that reaches the market can generate an entire value chain.” Her remarks underscored the Hub’s role in bridging research and market needs. Beyond providing a space for exchanging ideas, the Hub is expected to help students test innovative concepts, refine business models and access resources to advance promising ideas towards practical implementation.

The event also featured expert perspectives on innovation incubation and ecosystem development. Mr. Pham Tuan Hiep, Director of Incubation at BK Holdings, Hanoi University of Science and Technology, discussed the opportunities for economics disciplines to contribute to innovation within a technology-oriented university environment. Dr. Bui Tien Son of HaUI’s Department of Science, Technology and Innovation presented an overview of Vietnam’s innovation ecosystem, highlighting the potential of open data to support innovation activities and inform the development of new initiatives.

The launch also marked the establishment of the Student Innovation and Entrepreneurship Club (SE-ISC), an initiative designed to cultivate students’ entrepreneurial mindset and turn creative ideas into tangible outcomes. Through collaborative activities, peer learning and project development, the Club will encourage students to explore new ideas, work together on innovative solutions and take their first steps towards launching their own ventures.
