HaUI and Lao Embassy deepen educational cooperation, strengthening bilateral friendship
In celebration of the 63rd anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Vietnam and Laos (September 5, 1962 – September 5, 2025) and the 48th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977 – July 18, 2025), Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) had the honor of welcoming Mr. Khamtanh Somvong, Counselor for Culture and Education of the Embassy of the Lao People's Democratic Republic in Vietnam, for an official visit and working session.
This meeting marked an important step in enhancing bilateral educational collaboration and reaffirmed HaUI’s commitment to the internationalization of higher education
Mr. Khamtanh Somvong expressed his desire to gain deeper insights into the academic environment, training programs, and student life of Lao international students at HaUI. The two sides engaged in fruitful discussions, focusing on future cooperation directions, with a particular emphasis on the need for closer coordination between the Embassy and the university to provide comprehensive support for Lao students.Both sides share a commitment to designing academic programs that are attuned to students' competencies while simultaneously addressing the practical and strategic demands of Laos’s socio-economic development.

Speaking at the session, Dr. Kieu Xuan Thuc, Rector of Hanoi University of Industry, affirmed: “HaUI is proud to deliver high-quality, application-oriented training programs that equip Lao students with the skills and knowledge necessary to contribute meaningfully to their country's development after graduation.” Key academic disciplines such as artificial intelligence, electronics, and mechanical engineering are considered strategic areas that will offer Lao students a competitive edge in the job market, whether in the public sector or private enterprises.
With a legacy of 127 years of development, HaUI is recognized as one of Vietnam’s leading higher education institutions. The university currently enrolls more than 35,000 students across multiple disciplines and boasts a modern infrastructure, including nearly 500 lecture halls and over 200 laboratories and workshops equipped to international standards. HaUI’s strategy for internationalization is evident in its ongoing efforts to improve program quality and expand global partnerships. The university has successfully completed ABET accreditation for five training programs and maintains collaborations with over 1,000 domestic and international enterprises, including more than 200 strategic partners. The consistent graduate employment rate of over 95% within six to twelve months, with some programs achieving 100%, is a testament to HaUI’s commitment to practical, career-oriented education.
At the meeting, Mr. Khamtanh Somvong expressed his appreciation for HaUI’s comprehensive support for Lao international students. He praised the university for fostering a welcoming academic environment that respects cultural and educational diversity, helping students integrate, grow, and succeed.

Representatives from HaUI reaffirmed that the university's application-oriented training model is well suited to Laos’s human resource development needs. This model equips students with practical skills that can be immediately applied in real-world contexts, enabling them to contribute effectively to society upon graduation. The success and development of generations of Lao students and international students in general, serve as a powerful motivation for HaUI to continuously enhance and innovate its academic offerings.
The working session with Mr. Khamtanh Somvong concluded on a highly positive note, paving the way for expanded educational cooperation between Hanoi University of Industry and the Embassy of the Lao People’s Democratic Republic in Vietnam. Beyond its commemorative significance in honoring key milestones in bilateral relations, the visit represented a substantive step forward in reinforcing the enduring bond of solidarity and friendship between the two nations, while advancing the shared goal of cultivating high-quality human resources to support sustainable development in both countries.
