International Conference on "Teaching and Researching Japanese Linguistics and Japan Studies in Higher Education: Practices, Challenges, and Innovations"

On March 30, 2025, the School of Languages and Tourism (SLT), Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), successfully organized the international conference titled "Teaching and Researching Japanese Linguistics and Japan Studies in Higher Education: Practices, Challenges, and Innovations." The event brought together domestic and international experts and scholars, both onsite and online, to present and discuss cutting-edge research and educational practices.

Speaking at the event, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Ba Phong, Vice-Rector of SLT, emphasized that as a university committed to applied education and leading in the fields of language and tourism, HaUI consistently prioritizes curriculum innovation, teaching quality enhancement, and the promotion of scientific research. This international conference served as a valuable platform for scholars and experts to exchange insights on the current realities and challenges of teaching and researching the Japanese language and Japan studies, while also seeking practical and effective solutions to innovate and adapt to contemporary demands. The ultimate goal is to contribute to the development of a high-quality workforce for the new era.

Representing the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam, Ms. Kamitani Naoko, Director of the Japan Cultural Information Center, highlighted the robust and expanding cooperation between Japan and Vietnam, especially after the two nations upgraded their bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2023. In this context, the need for high-quality human resources proficient in the Japanese language and deeply knowledgeable about Japanese culture has become increasingly critical. Ms. Kamitani praised HaUI for its efforts in training students in Japanese language and culture and affirmed the Embassy’s commitment to continuing its support and promoting collaborative programs. These initiatives aim to provide students with broader opportunities to study, work, and engage in cultural exchange in Japan.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thi Thu Giang delivered a report on the current status and prospects of Japan Studies research in Vietnam, providing an in-depth overview of its development trends, academic contributions, and interdisciplinary potential.

Prof. Kamimura Hatsumi presented innovative solutions for developing a qualified teaching workforce through the application of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL), offering valuable insights into teacher training and curriculum design.

The conference was divided into two thematic panels featuring a wide range of in-depth research presentations. Key topics included the implementation of innovative teaching methods such as Content-Based Instruction (CBI), strategies for enhancing students' motivation in reading comprehension, and the use of technology, such as messenger chatbots, to improve communication skills. The presentations demonstrated strong practical applications and effectiveness, making significant contributions to the ongoing innovation and improvement of Japanese language education in Vietnam.
