Breakthrough Scientific Imprint: Waste slag treatment project secures Second Prize at VIFOTEC 2024
The Faculty of Chemical Technology at Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) continues to lead the way in scientific research and innovation, especially with a notable success at the Vietnam Science and Technology Innovation Award (VIFOTEC) 2024.
Recently, the project "Research on treating waste slag from yellow phosphorus production (Lao Cai) to produce unburnt materials and foundation structures for road construction using inorganic binders without cement", spearheaded by Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thi Mai Huong, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Technology, and her team of lecturers, remarkably clinched Second Prize at VIFOTEC 2024.

This groundbreaking work not only tackles a pressing environmental issue posed by industrial waste slag but also pioneers new avenues for utilizing green, sustainable, and eco-friendly materials. It's a clear testament to HaUI's dedication to developing science for the community, significantly bolstering the University's reputation both nationally and internationally.
A Robust Foundation for Remarkable Progress
The success of the Faculty of Chemical Technology is built on a solid foundation: highly qualified staff and lecturers, combined with state-of-the-art facilities.
Currently, the Faculty boasts nearly 40 lecturers and staff, with over 70% holding doctoral degrees or higher (including 8 Associate Professors with PhDs and 20 PhDs). This outstanding human capital is vital for continuously elevating the quality of both education and scientific research.
On May 24th, the Faculty of Chemical Technology successfully convened the Second National Scientific Conference, focusing on the theme of "Chemistry and Chemical Engineering for Sustainable Development"
In the 2020-2025 period, the Faculty of Chemical Technology has achieved remarkable accomplishments with over 40 research projects at various levels, including 4 state-level projects and 9 ministerial/provincial-level projects. Notably, the number of international ISI/Scopus publications totals 245, confirming the research capability of the faculty on par with regional standards.

The student scientific research movement has also seen robust development, with 269 projects, many of which have won top awards at prestigious academic competitions such as the National First Prize in the Startup Competition, Third Prize overall in the National Chemistry Olympiad, Second Prize in ministerial-level student scientific research, and various awards at the Euréka Competition and other innovation contests.

Beyond its strong research profile, the Faculty is also actively involved in compiling textbooks, transferring technology, and developing high-quality training programs. With over 70% of its lecturers holding doctoral degrees and a system of 29 modern laboratories, including one accredited with ISO 17025, the Faculty of Chemical Technology is progressively asserting its position within Vietnam's higher education system.
The Faculty currently offers four interdisciplinary undergraduate programs: Chemical Engineering Technology, Environmental Engineering Technology, Food Technology, and Pharmaceutical Chemistry Technology. Additionally, it provides two postgraduate programs: Master's and PhD in Chemical Engineering.

Looking ahead to the 2025-2026 academic year, the Faculty plans to introduce new undergraduate programs in Biotechnology and Materials Technology, along with master's programs in Environmental and Food fields. This expansion aims to broaden its scope and address the growing demand for highly skilled human resources in key national sectors.

Anticipating the 8th Congress of the HaUI Party Committee, Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thi Mai Huong expressed her hope that the Congress will continue to forge strategic decisions that catalyze breakthroughs in digital transformation, scientific research, and international integration. This, she believes, will enable Hanoi University of Industry to make vigorous strides in the new era.
