Hanoi University of Industry and Guangxi University of Science and Technology (China) promote dual-degree programs, joint research, and industry collaboration
On the afternoon of December 2, 2025, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dong, Vice Rector of Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), chaired a meeting with a delegation from Guangxi University of Science and Technology, China (GXUST). The meeting focused on reviewing and renewing existing joint training programs, while exploring opportunities to expand cooperation at higher levels of education, in close connection with scientific research activities and collaboration with enterprises.

GXUST has been one of HaUI’s strategic international partners, accompanying the university for the past 17 years, particularly in joint programs for Chinese and English language studies as well as new energy automotive training. Looking back at the outstanding achievements, Mr. YIN Huijin, Director of the Institute for International Cooperation and Exchange and Director of the International Training Institute, emphasized that the 2+2 and 3+1 programs, along with the new energy automotive project, have enabled many HaUI lecturers and students to study at GXUST.

Over the next five years, GXUST expressed its desire to continue effectively implementing existing joint programs, while expanding cooperation in postgraduate training, co-supervising master’s and doctoral students, jointly organizing international conferences and workshops, enhancing student and faculty exchanges, and making full use of both institutions’ facilities and laboratories, particularly in electric vehicle and new energy automotive training.
Mr. Phạm Văn Đông, Vice Rector of HaUI, also proposed gradually moving toward a dual-degree model, applying 1+1 or 1+1+0.5 structures at the master’s level, with doctoral programs lasting three to four years. GXUST faculty may participate in co-supervising postgraduate and doctoral students, while international learners will benefit from tuition waivers or reductions, financial support, and postdoctoral scholarships.

In scientific research, both parties agreed to jointly develop research topics and projects to seek funding from collaborative funds in Vietnam and China. They aim to gradually establish joint laboratories or research centers in key areas such as mechanical engineering, new energy automotive technology, information technology, languages, and translation. They also plan to strengthen faculty exchanges, short-term work assignments, and shared use of laboratories and practical workshops.
The leadership of both universities also emphasized the role of enterprises in the collaboration chain: participating in program design, providing scholarships, hosting internships, and giving priority to hiring graduates, especially Chinese enterprises investing in Vietnam.

To overcome language barriers and establish a sustainable foundation for joint programs, both parties also place special emphasis on language training and academic exchange. Currently, the School of Mechanical and Automotive Engineering at HaUI has enrolled 100 percent of students in the English-language Automotive Engineering program and plans to encourage students in related fields, such as new energy automotive technology, to study Chinese from the early years of their programs.

The School of Foreign Languages and Tourism at HaUI is prepared to offer Vietnamese language training for international students, opening up opportunities for GXUST faculty and students to come to HaUI for study and research. In addition, both universities plan to expand cultural exchange programs, including summer camps, language weeks, and academic clubs. These initiatives are designed to build a solid foundation for a new phase of collaboration between HaUI and GXUST, fostering deeper, broader, and more meaningful cooperation in the years to come.
