HaUI responds to Earth Hour: From small actions to a sustainable green development strategy

In response to the Earth Hour campaign, the spirit of “Save Electricity – Make It a Habit” has been widely embraced across the campus of Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), fostering a green lifestyle among staff, faculty members, and students.

One of the most notable highlights of this movement is the shift in commuting habits among staff and employees. An increasing number of faculty members are opting for environmentally friendly transportation, particularly electric vehicles, as a practical solution to reduce carbon emissions.

Ms. Le Duc Hanh from the School of Languages and Tourism noted that choosing electric vehicles is not only about keeping pace with technological trends but also about demonstrating environmental responsibility. Clean energy transportation helps reduce noise and air pollution while contributing to a more sustainable living environment. She expressed her hope that such small actions would inspire students to apply their knowledge in real life and actively contribute to protecting the planet.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Anh Ngoc of Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) shared that energy conservation has become a disciplined habit across the university. Air-conditioning is maintained at a standard temperature of 26°C, all electrical devices are turned off when leaving the room, and natural light is maximized in place of artificial lighting. These small daily actions make meaningful contributions to the University’s sustainable green development strategy.

For HaUI students, who are the future engineers and professionals, “green energy” is no longer a purely theoretical concept but a guiding principle in their daily lives. Vu Duc Cuong, a Mechatronics student from the School of Automotive Engineering, noted that saving electricity is not about making sacrifices, but about using energy in a smarter and more responsible way. In their daily routines, students remind one another to switch off electrical devices when leaving their rooms and to maximize the use of natural light. To them, a green environment is a valuable asset that must be actively protected and sustained.

At HaUI, Earth Hour goes far beyond a symbolic 60-minute lights-off event. It reflects a long-term vision in which the collective awareness of staff and the proactive spirit of students come together to build a green educational environment, where every individual serves as an ambassador for sustainable development.
