HaUI takes action for food safety in 2025: Ensuring a healthy and sustainable campus environment

Food safety is an essential aspect of public health, especially within academic institutions where thousands of individuals live, work, and learn together each day. At Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI), where more than 35,000 staff, lecturers, and students form a vibrant educational community, ensuring safe and hygienic food practices has long been a top priority.

In support of the 2025 Food Safety Action Month, themed "Promoting organizational and individual responsibility for public health through food safety," HaUI launched a comprehensive campaign to strengthen awareness and promote best practices in food hygiene across campus. Spearheaded by the Center for Student Support, the initiative includes practical training sessions for staff, service workers, and students on safe food handling, preparation, and consumption. The campaign also amplifies the core message: "Food safety is everyone’s responsibility."

These efforts highlight HaUI’s strong commitment to fostering a safe, healthy, and sustainable environment for its entire community. Food safety is not viewed as a one-time action but as an ongoing mission that requires the active participation of all members of the university.

To ensure compliance and accountability, HaUI works closely with health authorities to conduct both routine and ad-hoc inspections of all food service areas within the university. All vendors operating on campus must strictly follow government regulations regarding food safety, covering the full process from sourcing ingredients and preparing meals to proper storage and service. These procedures are in line with hygiene standards issued by the Ministry of Health and are rigorously monitored.

Education is a cornerstone of HaUI’s food safety strategy. The university regularly organizes seminars, workshops, discussion panels, and extracurricular activities to raise student awareness and promote responsible behavior. Students are encouraged to be proactive, understanding their rights as consumers, learning how to select safe food, and reporting any concerns regarding food quality or hygiene. By building this knowledge base, HaUI equips students to be informed decision-makers and engaged contributors to campus safety.

HaUI's food safety initiatives have produced tangible results. In recent years, there have been no reported incidents of foodborne illness within the university, a testament to the effectiveness of its policies and the coordinated efforts of all units involved. This success reinforces the value of preventive measures, strong oversight, and community-wide cooperation.

As part of its ongoing commitment, HaUI remains dedicated to upholding high standards of food hygiene and ensuring the health of everyone on campus. Guided by the principle "For the health of staff, lecturers, and students – For a sustainable future," the university will continue to integrate food safety into its broader goals for long-term development and well-being.
