HANOI, October 7 – This week the U.S. Mission to Vietnam launches two initiatives to support Vietnam’s goal of building a skilled, future-ready workforce. The initiatives connect Vietnamese learners and educators with U.S. universities, U.S. businesses, and American English-language expertise.
First, on October 5, U.S. Ambassador Jennifer Wicks launched NeoTECH EnglishWorks! nationwide. The program, implemented by Hanoi University of Industry, will help students and teachers at ten Vietnamese universities build practical English skills for the high-tech workplace. This program is the latest investment in expanding English language training in Vietnam. “English is more than a language. For students in technical fields, strong English skills open doors to information, professional networks, and career opportunities,” Ambassador Wicks said. “By investing in English education, the United States is proud to support Vietnam’s young people and strengthen our Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.”

In addition to NeoTech EnglishWorks, the U.S. Mission also supports English language development across Vietnam through the English Access Program, the VietTESOL International Convention, and the American English Viewing Marathon. Further, the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program, launched in Vietnam in 2008, sends up to 22 U.S. college graduates to gifted high schools, colleges and universities across Vietnam every year to foster English teaching and learning while providing for cultural exchange between Americans and Vietnamese students. Also, the Peace Corps currently has 36 volunteers teaching English in high schools in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. A new group of 19 volunteers just arrived on October 5.
Second, the Mission will host a U.S. Pavilion at the International Conference on Education Cooperation in the Digital Era and the Education & EdTech Exhibition (IECEE), being organized by Vietnam’s Ministry of Education and Training (MOET) on October 8–9 in Hanoi. The U.S. pavilion showcases six U.S. universities and five private sector companies along with the U.S. Mission’s education programs. In addition, U.S. based Educational Testing Service, the largest private educational and testing service, and four other U.S. firms will have their own booths or pavilions to showcase how their companies can help Vietnam achieve its goals for higher education reform and workforce development.

The U.S. Pavilion features six American universities: the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, the University of Massachusetts Amherst, the University ofMassachusetts Lowell, Georgia Institute of Technology, the University of Nebraska Omaha, and Oklahoma State University. Amazon Web Services, ELSA Corp, Google, Khan Academy Vietnam, and Meta are also taking part. U.S. experts are speaking on “Advancing Vietnamese Education with American Innovation,” international super intelligence (SI) partnerships, and strategies for building digital universities. According to MOET, more than 900 delegates have registered, including about 400 for the higher education session. Later this year, the U.S. Embassy will bring representatives from three leading U.S. institutions to Vietnam to share their experiences designing SI curriculum for undergraduate and graduate programs.
For more than three decades, the United States and Vietnam have partnered together to advance education in Vietnam. From the first Fulbright program in 1992 to this week’s events, education has been foundational to the bilateral relationship and a key element of the U.S-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Through these efforts and its work with MOET, the U.S. Mission supports Vietnam’s workforce development and advances the U.S.-Vietnam Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
