On the morning of December 5, 2025, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) successfully hosted the scientific workshop "Future-ready: Bridging Education and Industry 5.0 Era." The workshop served not only as a strategic forum for redefining academic programs but also marked a major advancement in the technology transfer partnership between HaUI and SMC Corporation Vietnam. The consensus assessment highlighted: The 5.0 era transcends mere productivity requirements to strive for sustainability, resilience, and high-level personalization, with humans positioned at the core of synergistic collaboration with machinery.

The scientific workshop provided the formal setting for a pivotal strategic discussion on the future of manufacturing and human capital. The event itself represented a significant step in the growing partnership between Hanoi University of Industry and SMC Corporation Vietnam.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Van Dong, Vice Rector of HaUI, presented the University's forward-looking perspective. He asserted that Industry 5.0, unlike the 4.0 phase which focused intensely on automation, utilizes Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Internet of Things (IoT), and Vision AI to establish new standards for collaboration. This is an urgent mandate requiring comprehensive reform across higher education," the HaUI leadership emphasized. The transformation must occur simultaneously in both curricula and training methodologies. The University’s enduring objective is to empower students with the capacity to master technology, rather than merely adapting passively to technological changes.

The three-month collaborative agenda, including technology exhibitions and transfers between HaUI and SMC, underscores a firm commitment to integrating global technological excellence into the lecture halls, ensuring students gain direct exposure to manufacturing realities.

Participating in the workshop, Mr. Gerald Ho, General Manager of SMC Corporation Vietnam, provided profound insights into "Digital Equity." He highlighted the pivotal role of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) and cautioned against the risk of obsolescence for those lacking structured access to technology.

A central focus of Mr. Ho’s presentation was the issue of ethics and transparency in AI deployment. He stated: "AI demands absolute transparency. Humans deserve to know when they are interacting with an artificial intelligence system." Based on this, he affirmed the University's role in ensuring accuracy and safety when training students to utilize technological tools. SMC pledged to share its technological know-how via advanced training systems, such as the SIF-400.

Bringing a contemporary pedagogical perspective, Mr. Imanol, International Training Expert from SMC Spain, clearly delineated the distinction between "To know" (Theoretical knowledge) and "To know how" (Practical competence). He then employed the metaphor of conquering Mount Everest to illustrate the technical learning process, explaining that they could not reach the summit in a single day but required "rest stops" to acclimatize to the altitude. He shared that SMC’s training equipment served as those vital 'rest stops,' guiding students toward mastering the complex systems essential for Industry 5.0.

Introducing the AIT-400 (Artificial Intelligence Training) system, the expert differentiated between Generative AI (like ChatGPT) and Discriminative AI used for industrial applications. In factory settings, AI serves specific tasks such as Quality Inspection and Predictive Maintenance. Highly specialized technical solutions, including the MAP-205 system—integrating IO-Link and Augmented Reality (AR)—were presented in detail. The key benefit of these systems is their capability for predictive maintenance and fault prevention. The new technology automatically analyzes abnormal data fluctuations to issue early warnings, enabling businesses to proactively plan interventions, thus ensuring continuous operational efficiency and extending equipment lifespan.

The synergy between HaUI's strategic vision and SMC's advanced technological solutions clearly defines the profile of the technical professional in the 5.0 era: global citizens who possess the capacity to master tools to optimize value, rather than simply operating machinery. This cooperation establishes a robust foundation for realizing the shared strategic goals of both institutions in the subsequent phase.
