HaUI equips students with cybersecurity skills amid growing High-Tech scams
As high-tech scams continue to rise and target not only students but also staff and lecturers, Hanoi University of Industry (HaUI) organized a cybersecurity workshop on May 31, 2025. The event sought to equip participants with essential knowledge and practical skills to recognize and prevent cyber fraud in the digital era.
The workshop, themed “Preventing and Warning Against High-Tech Online Fraud and Asset Appropriation,” attracted the participation of nearly 500 students and staff. The event was privileged to welcome Senior Lieutenant colonel Nguyễn Đức Dũng, a specialist from the Department of Cybersecurity and High-Tech Crime Prevention under the Ministry of Public Security, as the keynote speaker.
Dr. Trần Ngọc Khánh, Head of the Student Affairs Department, delivered the opening remarks
In the opening remarks, Dr. Trần Ngọc Khánh – Head of the Student Affairs Department, expressed concern over the growing complexity and frequency of cyber fraud. He noted that during the past semester, several students at HaUI had fallen victim to such scams, resulting in both financial and emotional harm. “Cybercrime is on the rise and poses a serious threat to all sectors of society, particularly to students who may lack sufficient digital literacy,” Dr. Khánh emphasized. He encouraged attendees to become proactive communicators of cybersecurity awareness within their social circles and communities.

Senior Lieutenant colonel Nguyễn Đức Dũng provided in-depth insights into the nature of cyberspace and current methods used by fraudsters. He analyzed various fraudulent schemes, including impersonation of law enforcement agencies to demand money transfers, fake notifications of undelivered packages or traffic fines, romance scams targeting women, and bogus investment platforms promising high returns. He also explained the challenges associated with recovering stolen assets, as cybercriminals often utilize foreign servers and services, hindering investigative efforts.
In addition to understanding fraudulent tactics, participants were trained in essential digital self-defense strategies. The speaker highlighted the importance of safeguarding personal information, minimizing online disclosures, and implementing strong security practices such as using complex, multi-layered passwords, enabling encryption tools like BitLocker, and securing accounts on platforms like Gmail, Facebook, and Zalo. Attendees were also advised to check login activity regularly, scan suspicious files and links using tools like VirusTotal, and enable file extensions to identify disguised malicious content.
Senior Lieutenant colonel Nguyễn Đức Dũng emphasized that cybersecurity is not solely an individual responsibility but also a matter of national interest. “In this digital era, equipping oneself with cybersecurity knowledge is essential not only for personal safety but also for contributing to national security,” he remarked. He urged students to engage critically with digital information, apply cybersecurity practices in both learning and daily life, and use technological tools effectively and responsibly. The workshop concluded with an interactive Q&A session, allowing students to raise specific concerns and seek expert guidance on real-world scenarios.
As a token of appreciation, Dr. Nguyễn Văn Thiện, Vice Rector of HaUI, presented flowers to Senior Lieutenant colonel Nguyễn Đức Dũng, acknowledging his valuable contribution to the program
This workshop exemplifies HaUI’s enduring commitment to nurturing a well-informed, digitally competent, and security-conscious student community. By systematically providing knowledge and practical tools to prevent high-tech fraud, the University affirms its role not only as an educational institution but also as a proactive force in safeguarding students’ wellbeing in the digital age. Promoting a culture of cybersecurity awareness and responsible digital engagement remains a strategic priority in HaUI’s broader mission of holistic student development.
