Advancing internationalization: HaUI and PAGE Region IV-A enhance cooperation in education and research

With a strategic focus on advancing the internationalization of education in training, scientific research, academic exchange, and the development of a multicultural academic environment, Hanoi University of Industry continues to affirm its position as an innovative, globally engaged higher education institution actively expanding regional partnerships. On June 29, 2026, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Văn Đông, Vice President of HaUI, chaired a working session with a delegation from the Graduate Education Association of the CALABARZON Region, Philippines (PAGE Region IV-A). The meeting aimed to explore potential cooperation in postgraduate education, scientific research, academic exchange, faculty–student mobility, and overall quality enhancement in higher education.

Overview of the working session

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Phạm Văn Đông presented an overview of HaUI’s establishment, academic structure, and development orientation. As a public university under the Ministry of Industry and Trade of Vietnam, HaUI operates as a multi-disciplinary institution comprising five member schools and two faculties. HaUI currently offers 72 undergraduate programs, 14 master’s programs, and 12 doctoral programs. The graduate employability rate remains consistently high, at 90–95%, with some disciplines reaching 100%, reflecting the effectiveness of its practice-oriented training model aligned with labor market demands.

In line with the internationalization strategy, HaUI is expanding English-medium instruction as a key foundation for academic cooperation and global integration. In the 2026–2027 academic year, the university will implement 15 English-taught programs across diverse fields, including economics, services, engineering, and technology. This initiative also supports the future development of English-language postgraduate programs to meet international collaboration needs.

Representing the delegation, Mr. Ramon C. Maniago, Dean of Graduate Studies and President of PAGE Region IV-A, expressed his appreciation for HaUI’s warm hospitality and its strong commitment to internationalization. Founded in 1962, PAGE has long played a significant role in advancing postgraduate education in the Philippines. During the meeting, PAGE Region IV-A also formally extended an invitation to HaUI to attend its upcoming international conference, which will be held from August 27 to 29, 2026, at Lyceum of the Philippines University in Cavite.

Both sides explored the potential development of English-taught master’s programs in HaUI’s core disciplines, including mechanical and automotive engineering, electrical and electronics engineering, information technology, economics, and management.

HaUI emphasized that the expansion of English-medium postgraduate programs will be implemented in a structured manner in line with accreditation standards, while also taking into account faculty capacity, learner readiness, and available academic resources. The university also reaffirmed its readiness to support international students through research supervision, academic mentoring, and thesis and dissertation defenses conducted in English. In the field of scientific research, HaUI proposed strengthening cooperation through co-supervision of doctoral candidates, the establishment of joint research groups, and the implementation of collaborative research projects to increase international publications. Both sides also discussed opportunities to co-organize academic conferences, co-publish research outputs, and enhance exchanges among faculty members, researchers, and students. These initiatives are expected to make a meaningful contribution to connecting and strengthening the research ecosystems of Vietnam and the Philippines.

HaUI also introduced a scholarship policy for international students as a key component of a broader educational exchange strategy. In 2026, the university will offer 100 scholarships for international undergraduate students, including 25 already awarded to students from the Philippines. International students at HaUI are eligible for tuition support, on-campus accommodation, and monthly stipends. For applicants who have not yet met Vietnamese language proficiency requirements, HaUI provides a preparatory Vietnamese language program lasting approximately one year, enabling learners to strengthen language skills and adapt to the academic and cultural environment before entering degree programs.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between HaUI and PAGE Region IV-A, establishing a solid foundation for long-term cooperation in postgraduate education, scientific research, academic exchange, and the development of international training programs. The agreements reached are expected to be translated into concrete and impactful initiatives in the near future, further strengthening higher education connectivity between Vietnam and the Philippines.
